Why this Recipe Works

  • Simple Ingredients: 1 main ingredient with simple dipping sauces and seasonings.
  • Easy Dinner: These easy grilled chicken drumsticks come together in less than 30 minutes.
  • Bold Flavor: I love grilling these up on my Weber Searwood pellet grill or Traeger pellet smoker for quick and bold flavors! The indirect heat of the pellet grill gives it that perfect smoky flavor.

I love recipes that come together in 30 minutes or less especially for weeknight dinners. My other recipes that can be made quickly are my Homemade Healthy Chicken Sandwich Recipe - Best Ever, Honey Ginger Soy Salmon, Best Keto Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe - Delicious and my Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Vegetables dishes!

Ingredients

  • Grilling Chicken Drumsticks: Any part of the chicken legs can be used, but chicken drumsticks work best for this recipe. If you like dark meat you could always use chicken thighs. If you prefer white meat, use chicken wings or chicken breasts and adjust the cooking time as needed.
  • Flaky Sea Salt: To bring out the flavors in your chicken and liven up your dish. You could also use your favorite spice rub in place of the salt and pepper.
  • Black Pepper: I like to use a pepper grinder for my savory dishes, it tastes so fresh!
  • Olive Oil: I primarily use olive oil or avocado oil when grilling, I also love using other healthy fats like coconut oil, beef tallow or ghee.
  • Buffalo Dipping Sauce: Your favorite store bought buffalo dipping sauce will work great here.
  • Optional Garlic Parmesan Blend Topping
    • Parmesan: Any hard cheese will work such as parmesan, romano or pecorino cheese.
    • Garlic Powder: Garlic powder makes this topping easy to throw together, you can use fresh minced garlic as well.
    • Fresh Parsley: Fresh parsley works best here, you could also use dried parsley if that's what you have on hand!

Hint: Ideally, let your grilled chicken drumsticks rest for 3-5 minutes before serving. This will ensure your chicken is moist and you have juicy meat!

Variations

Here are some other great flavors and variations to try with your drumsticks:

  • BBQ Sauce - Cover or dip the drumsticks in your favorite BBQ sauce for a sweet and smoky flavor combination.
  • Teriyaki Sauce - use Teriyaki sauce or even soy sauce if you are wanting a sweet , but umami flavor with your drumsticks.
  • Yellow or Red Curry - Pick up your favorite curry sauce and serve with cilantro and rice!

Equipment

  • Traeger or Pellet Smoker Grill
  • Baking Sheet

Storage

Store the grilled chicken drumsticks in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Re-heat in the oven or air fryer at 400°F for best texture and results.

Top Tip

Make sure your pellet smoker is completely pre-heated before grilling your chicken drumsticks! The heat and the olive oil will keep the drumsticks from sticking and give you that perfect crispy chicken skin!
