Why Drop Cheddar Biscuits?
My mother used to make drop biscuits all the time when I was growing up. They are easy to make when you need a quick breakfast idea or side dish, require few ingredients, and bake in a short amount of time. Drop biscuits can be thought of as the homemade equivalent of the popular "bisquick" mix biscuits that were very popular when I was a child.
You can make the batter for drop biscuits in five minutes or less by combining the dry ingredients with the wet like milk and melted butter. I've made these biscuits so many times that I can make them by memory with different add-ins each time I make them! I'll make these with various toppings to make the ideal breakfast if I'm looking for something quick to make. These could be served plain or with jam, butter, honey, or even pepper jelly for a little kick (my husband’s favorite)! I've served them with gravy or as the foundation for a breakfast sandwich!
With the addition of garlic, cheddar, and green onions, my version goes well with soups, steaks, and seafood for dinner. Though it has more crunch than the well-known Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit, this drop biscuit tastes similar to those flavors!
